Just to be clear, it’s not the games, it’s all the money it’s costing to put on a huge party for a select few individuals. It’s also the fact that so many city, provincial and federal politicians and ‘officials’ are attending the games on our buck. It pisses me off. They should all be fired.

But I digress…

Last night Tracey and I watched the opening ceremonies. I’m proud to be a Canadian and I’m proud to have the athletes competing in our beautiful city.

Then we watched on TV as Gretzky was paraded through downtown to light the outdoor Olympic Cauldron… and we also watched it unfold across the water live.

Now how many people can say they can see the Olympic Cauldron from their living room?

Very cool indeed.

On a side note, it’s a tragedy to have lost an Olympic competitor during the games. Someone comes to compete and loses their life as a result of it. It shouldn’t have happened. Many of the competitors have stated that the sliding course is too fast. How could VANOC have made such a fatal mistake?
