I’m back in Norman Wells, NWT. I’ll be here until the second week of October… and I’m already questioning whether or not I’ve brought enough warm clothing. Seems I never learn.
Tuesday was Tracey’s birthday… and not just any birthday, but the big ‘29′ (of course I’m not at liberty to say any other number than 29, so we’ll just go with it).
Now you might expect that such an event should be cause for a gift of substantial proportions… and I fully realized this. I was very tempted to get her the Battlestar Gallactica series on DVD as she is a bit of a freak and really likes that sci-fi stuff, but I felt it might be better to go ‘over-the-top’…
… so, I proposed…

Tracey (aka SunSwan) and I are having a GREAT time here in Kenora. We had some very hot weather, then some mild weather, now the weather is cooling off and going to be a bit rainy over the next few days. We even had a good thunder storm, which I really enjoyed, seeing as I’ve not seen one yet this year.
Tuesday we went out for a tour of the lake. Ron (Tracey’s dad) took us on a tour of some of the nicer ‘cottages’ on Lake of the Woods, then into the harbour in Kenora. Then we lunched close by in Keewatin (pronounced ‘Q-wait-in’)… all by boat.
Then we headed out for some casting for jacks (Great Northern Pike) and muskies (Muskellunges). After a good 45 minutes with no bites casting, Ron suggested Tracey and I try trolling for awhile.
We dropped our lines in and Ron started trolling the boat. We were only 50-60 feet into it and I was still letting out line when *SPLASH!* and my line was reeling out at full tilt.
Ohhh baby, was it good.

Meet Jack, a 14 pound Great Northern Pike
Do I look happy or what?!?!?
Tracey also caught about a 5 pound Jack as well.
That was alot of fun.
Off to Kenora for some well needed R&R. A week of fishing and relaxing is just what the doctor ordered.
I’ve pretty much missed all of summer as I’ve worked north of 60 since May, although after talking to alot of people there wasn’t much summer to have missed.
Regardless, it’ll be nice just to get away for awhile with my sweetie.
