I gotta say, it’s been interesting.  The country is beautiful yet mostly desolate.  Vast expanses of desert are accented by large mountain ranges and lush green river valleys crowded with farms and villages.

The vast majority of Afghans are extremely poor.  Mud brick houses, many of which do not have windows and some even without roofs, can be found everywhere.  There are even small villages or single houses high in the mountains, the land meticulously terraced to accommodate  farming.

The cities are very busy.  Many buildings are in disrepair.  Cars and trucks flood the streets, often creating large traffic jams.  There don’t seem to be too many road rules here, it’s every man for himself.

We work every day, except for a few weather days, which have been more frequent than normal, especially this time of year.  Even with the weather days, it’s been pretty tiring, given the fact that I haven’t flown much in the last two years.  It will take time for my body to adjust to the rigorous schedule.

I look forward to getting home and relaxing for a few days before heading to the east coast for a wedding and some time with Tracey and her parents.
