Norman Wells, in the summertime, is quite a beautiful place. In the winter…. not so much.
There are plenty of mountains, rivers, boreal forest and even some grand elevated plateaus with mountain sheep and caribou…. and the odd grizzly if you can spot one.
Here are just a few photos from the last few days…

Looks like beautiful country. Having grown up in a place that has the same kind of Summer is very very good and winter is very very icky….I know what you mean about it.
Hey Roger, my dream is to make it to that country some day to do a Dall Sheep hunt in the McKenzies….thought about you guys the other day as I landed in Kenora for Canadian customs. Chris I went to Mexico to fly back the 205 as the fire contract there was done and things were heating up here. The trip went well and shortly after landing at North Platte Nebraska we got the call that we were hired on in Dryden as soon as we arrived there, so we headed northeast instead of northwest.
It was a learning experience for this old bush pilot travelling trough 6 different states and 3 countries but with some helpfull advice from a few friends and kind strangers all went well and no military fighter jets rocked their wings at me (lots of military zones along the way).
We stopped in Dodge City (Matt Dillons home and the OK correll I believe) for fuel and after we fueled up I asked Chris if he was ready and after he said yes I said “Lets get the F&*% out of Dodge” LOL
We are sitting in Vedette Lake a nice little forward attack base on a lake with AC in all the bulidings and satallite tv…..what more can a guy want???(maybe less bugs but we all know that comes with the job).
Have a great and safe summer Roger.
Cheers
Keep them coming. These are great.
Megan’s last blog post..“It’s still there for them to see.”
Todd!
Yeah, I saw some Doll sheep yesterday in the rocks. Saw lots when I was in the rocks here last September.
Sounds like an interesting trip. The states scares me with all the ‘restricted’ airspace and crap.
So now you’re in northern ON waiting on fire… let’s hope they come soon!
Fly safe Todd.
Thanks Megan.
Thankfully I had some people with me to take pictures. Generally it’s not easy while flying.
