I’ve been working and staying in Zama for the last couple of days with my customer.
So I walk out to the helicopter this morning. I start to take off the covers and I walk around the side of the machine and a small wave of terror floods over me as I look up and see…

Yes, it’s a bison.
It was standing less than 50 feet from my machine by some trees…. and when I saw it, it was just looking at me. I just stood there waiting for it to start charging me.
Now there are a number of bison in the Zama area of AB. You see them from time to time when you’re flying… but you never expect to see one ‘in town’ and so close.
Clearly the bison thought less of the encounter than I did. It just looked at me for a minute, turned and sauntered off… at which point I grabbed my camera and followed it to take the picture (from a considerable distance).
So, when’s the last time you saw a bison?

shnewt’s last blog post..Les Faux Bourgeois
I flew over a bison farm today but a wild one-not since the Rainbow days if memory serves.
Can’t say that I have ever seen one in person. Cool experience.
The last summer I worked up there! Had a big bull walk just past the pitot tube (I was sleeping in the back of the jet buggy). I was hoping he didn’t want to scratch himself on the machine.
Quite the pet you’ve adopted there!
If you happen to find yourself in FSJ, drop by the hangar… I have a feeling it may have been you here with an astar the other day?
Cheers.
Cole
Will certainly do Cole, although I rarely deviate into northern BC from here.
No, it wasn’t me. I’ve never been to FSJ myself.
Dude, La Biche and Ft Mac are BURNING!!! Get down here, there has to be 50 machines in LLB right now. I have 6 flying off the base here.
Ohhh man…. I am jealous.
Nothing would make me happier than fighting fire this year but I’m certainly not going to be seeing as much as you are this year… I’ll be north of 60 all summer again.
Enjoy it!
