I had a notice to pickup a parcel from the local postal outlet. I had ordered a couple of items for my Palm Treo so I assumed that was what had arrived. I went down and picked up the parcel.
I looked at the package and noticed it was from Canadian Helicopters. “Hmmm,” I thought, “It almost feels like another book.”
Last year Canadian had sent every pilot a book on the pitfalls of flying helicopters. I thought it was a good idea. You know, learn from the mistakes of others. It was quite informative.
So I figured they had sent out another book.
I opened up the package in my truck and pulled out a shiny new 8 GB iPod Touch . How friggin’ cool is that?
Turns out Canadian had a banner year; record revenue and no accidents in 2007. That’s pretty darn good, considering the company flew some 86,000+ hours over the year.
So in appreciation they handed out a free iPod Touch to every employee.
Oh sure, I would have preferred a $1500 cash bonus or a two week all expenses paid vacation in the Caribbean, but hey, I pretty happy with my new toy.

I think that’s a nice gesture!
Cool gift Roger, thats the kind of gestures that operators have to start doing showing their appreciation for safe work practices. I hope that SMS catches on and we can see a large reduction of incidents and accidents as a whole in the industry. We all pay when someone has a loss. There have been too many fatalities and there isn’t any replacement for that.
On that note everyone have a safe summer, do be rushed and have fun.
Agreed Todd. Although it seemed like last year there were fewer accidents than previous years as a whole… but I could be wrong there.
I imagine you meant “don’t be rushed” as opposed to “do be rushed”?
Yeah I bad, I’m the reason there is spell & gramar check.
Don’t feel bad. Spell check is my friend too!
I can’t wait to see how many helicopters go down this next year because everyone was listening to their iPods…
no, i’m not jealous…
Wow dude… that’s just not cool.
ya, i know… my bad.
